Founders David and Lisa

David

With over 20 years of experience in the community care sector across Queensland, Victoria, and the USA, David is deeply committed to empowering individuals and strengthening communities. He holds a degree in Psychology from New York and a Diploma in Mental Health from Australia, equipping him with both global insight and local expertise.

David has played a key role for 2 charities on the Gold Coast in strategic development and mission alignment for values-driven growth.

Currently, he is on the ground working with The Salvation Army Doorways Program in the Gold Coast/Tweed Region, doing casework with vulnerable individuals to provide wrap-around supports, guidance, and hope. His hands-on experience, combined with his leadership in organisational development, makes him a strong advocate for meaningful transformation in the community.

Lisa

Lisa has a deep passion for building community and fostering meaningful relationships. With over ten years of experience in the community care sector, she has worked across early childhood education, community event coordination, playgroups, customer service, and hospitality—all with a heart for bringing people together.

Her love for connection and empowerment is woven into everything she does, whether she’s organising spaces for people to gather, creating welcoming environments, or capturing special moments through her photography business.

Through her work, Lisa continues to cultivate spaces where people feel seen, valued, and supported, ensuring that hospitality and community go hand in hand.

Our Why

The idea for solace haven began quite early on in our marriage after discussing what ideal community and family looked like for us.

We both have fond memories of our individual experiences living with numerous other families and friends and experiencing the young excitement of dorm life on campus.

The positive impact of intergenerational support and cross cultural connections across our lives has been something of a privilege we’ve both shared and realise this is not a common experience within current western society.

Over the years we have seen the need to rebuild culture around what it means to be family, what it looks like to be apart of a healthy community and how we can cultivate that for those who have none.
